Lake District Documentary Family Photography - The Birdsall Family

Lake District Documentary Family Photography

One of my many roles as a family photographer is that of a family historian. I aim to capture families in a very real and unposed way in order for them to enjoy these memories for generations to come. Documenting family life is one of my favourite parts of my job. Having children helps me make families and their children comfortable around me. This gives me the chance to photograph families being families.

Based in the North West of England means I am only an hour from the beautiful Lake District. One of my favourite places on the British Isles and I love having the opportunity to photograph families in this stunning part of the world. Sometimes, however it’s not about the beautiful scenery and gorgeous views. As was the case on this family shoot in Ulverston. The Birdsall Family had hired a house for all of the family to celebrate a special Birthday. I was invited along to hang out and capture them doing what families do.

In the comfort of this hired house, where I was made to feel so very welcome, I got to know this lovely family. They hung out, played games, ate birthday cake and braved the winter weather by exploring the grounds, chasing chickens and meeting some local porky residents. I was on hand to photograph all of this and loved every second.
